Exhibition Design: Whose Land is it Anyway?

The challenge
How do you make complex themes like land loss, sustainability, and over-tourism feel personal, digestible, and urgent for people with Caribbean roots? The exhibition Whose Land is it Anyway? needed a clear visual language that could tie these issues together while highlighting the voices of regional artists.

The gig
As the visual storyteller for this exhibition, I shaped the visual narrative that connected the artworks, themes, and visitor experience.

Behind the scenes

I translated the exhibition’s themes into tangible visual elements and touchpoints:

  • Developed four symbolic visual anchors that connected the recurring themes of land loss, fabric, sustainability, and pollution throughout the exhibition space.

  • Designed a marketing poster that incorporated elements from local artists, creating a direct link between the show and the communities it represents.

  • Produced awareness stickers on over-tourism to spark reflection and dialogue beyond the gallery walls.

The impact
The exhibition achieved a cohesive visual narrative that welcomed and guided visitors through the space and its various artworks, strengthening their connection to the themes and communities involved. The poster and stickers extended the conversations visitors had and encouraged them to engage more actively with the issues presented. The symbols became recognizable touchpoints across the space—and even made their permanent mark on my friends and me. We got them tattooed. ;)
